A Night of Art and Spoken Word

URBAN ARTS invites you to participate in a night of Art and Spoken Word! Urban Arts Presents: A Night of Art and Spoken Word on Saturday, September 17th from7pm-1am. Urban Arts is looking for2-D and 3-D artworks. The theme for the show is “Speak Your Art!” The event will be held at Urban Arts’ historic studio WAREHOUSE. The warehouse is located at 558 Vandalia Street on the 2nd floor in Saint Paul.

Urban Arts is collaborating with International Award-winning Spoken Word Artist Desdemona along with Tish Jones, Jake Virden, Eliana Reyes, Marie Chante, and Cole “Inky” Sarar! Desdamona has taken her distinct lyrics, sounds, and artistic stylings to audiences from Minnesota to Hawaii to Puerto Rico to Germany; gracing some of Hip Hop and poetry’s most illustrious stages. She has had the pleasure of opening up for distinguished artists including Wyclef Jean, GURU, Bahamadia, Zap Mama, Black Uhuru/Sly & Robbie, Saul Williams, Ursula Rucker, KRS ONE and Rhymesayers artists. She has also shared the stage with influential Hip Hop artists including Canada’s Eternia, Medusa and Bgirl Rockafella. Spoken Word artists will be performing throughout the night.

Urban Arts is also teaming up with Pabst Blue Ribbon for this event. We are calling for Visual Artists to produce one fresh work of PBR art that will be displayed for the first time ever in our PBR Art Gallery section. Artists producing an original PBR work of art will have their Artist Submission Fee paid for by PBR! Artists must enter their PBR artwork by the art submission deadline in order to be considered for having the submission fee waived.

Minneapolis DJ Mix Well will be spinning into the night for all guests to bring it on the dance floor! In addition to a night of Spoken Word, Urban Arts will be offering Art for Sale, Ghost Graffiti, Poetry, PBR Art, and More!

All artists may submit up to eight (8) pieces of artwork and one (1) original PBR artwork. We encourage all artists to submit all nine for this event due to the amount of warehouse space we have available for the exhibit, and up to ALL eight submissions and the PBR piece may be chosen for the exhibit.

There will be a $40 submission fee for artists accepted into the show to help pay for the exhibit space, snacks, beverages, DJ, and advertisement. However, the Urban Arts Committee will waive the submission fee if an artist creates an original PBR artwork for the event. This event will have an admission fee for guests. The fee will cover expenses for Spoken Word performances. TICKETS ARE FOR SALE with Urban Arts Staff or Online at for $10 or the night of the event for $15 at the door. If you missed Urban Arts’ last event at the warehouse, you DO NOT want to miss this one! The Urban Arts staff is expecting another amazing show.

The price range for selling art is from $3000 and below. 15% of all art sales will go to towards keeping Urban Arts an ongoing event in the Twin Cities.

The deadline for all artist entries will be Friday, September 2, 2011.
