Famous Friends is an event production company started by accident in 2007 between two best friends and one dj, Bradley D. It was all started by Ruth Heronemus, Beth D’haem and Brad Dickason. Ruth decided to throw her best friend Beth a party to celebrate her finishing her masters degree and they called the party Famous Friends. (Ruth and Beth were dubbed Famous Friends by a coffee shop worker down the street from them that could never remember who was who, and decided to just call them Famous Friends because they were always together! And it stuck.) Little did they know that this party would turn into a successful event production company. After the success of their first event, they threw a 2nd even a few weeks later at a warehouse in Brooklyn (the Silent Barn). They expected around 150 people, and 800 showed up! They continued throwing monthly DIY parties until they just simply outgrew the all ages, underground scene. In 2008, they wer
e voted the best underground party in NYC by L Magazine, and it was time for them to branch into the NYC true nightlife scene and see if they could make their mark. Since moving into the club scene, they’ve been throwing events on a weekly, bi-weekly and monthly basis at clubs all over Brooklyn and Manhattan. In 2008, Ruth Heronemus (Famous Friends founder) also founded the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival. In 2009, Heronemus partnered up with NYC djs Aaron Davis (VDRK), Joel Fowler (Free Magic) and party dude Damon Jablons to create a new monthly event called Discovery at Santos Party House. They created Discovery to fill a niche that catered to Disco and House Music fans all over NYC, and was a free event before midnight, something they felt was lacking in the scene. It has since been dubbed one of the best parties in NYC by fans and djs from all over! (Including Treasure Fingers himself!) Discovery party will be celebrating its 1 year anniv
ersary in December this year as well! Make sure to check out www.adiscoparty.com to RSVP for free entry. 🙂
So what’s next for Famous Friends? Expect some killer collaborations in 2010 with other promoters/producers and DJs, and December 18th, 2010 will be the 3rd annual BEMF (www.brooklynemf.com for details) event (sponsored by PBR!) which has grown bigger and better each year. This year’s BEMF will be held at two venues on 6th St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn – Williamsburg Hall of Music and Public Assembly in one night.
