Andre Williams + Subsonics+ More on Friday September 10th, 2010 @StarBarAtlanta

The Star Bar is very excited to host Bloodshot Records Recording Artist Andre Williams on Friday September 10th, 2010. With a mind-boggling 50 year career in the music business, 70-year old Andre Williams is showing no signs of slowing down. He is the original rapper and R&B performer and has recently been backed by such groups as John Spencer’s Blue Explosion, the Sadies, the Goldstarsand many others. Atlanta’s own garage-rock superstars The Subsonics will also perform.

Andre “Mr. Rhythm” Williams is a R&B legend, and you may not even know it. He wrote “Shake A Tail Feather,” and sang such uber-raunch cult classics as “Bacon Fat” (covered by the Cramps), “Greasy Chicken,” and the epitome of songs about little girls, “Jail Bait.” He worked at seminal labels such as Motown, Chess, and Fortune. He wrote songs for, or produced folks Ike Turner, Parliament/Funkadelic, Edwin Starr and Stevie Wonder. The guy is like music’s version of Zelig; he’s been everywhere, man.

For his new album, Andre went back home to Detroit and cut a record of psychedelic soul-rock freakouts, growly 4am slow jams and hypnotic grooves with members of Outrageous Cherry, Dirt Bombs, Electric Six and super special guitarist Dennis Coffey of the legendary Motown house band the Funk Brothers.

“Williams has twice the swagger and three times the guts of almost anyone a third of his age.” —Tucson Weekly

The Subsonics:

Their astonishing sixth album. ‘DIE BOBBY DIE’ is a

sparkling collection of wicked hits. Thirteen songs that will

take you high and will calm you down. Pharmaceutical-grade

sounds, amphetamine-fueled fever dreams (nightmares?!).

The bass is now played by Rob Del Bueno, the eccentric

scientist who lead the sci-fi instrumental band MAN OR

ASTROMAN? to world-wide acclaim. And of course, as

always since day one, Clay Reeds epileptic guitar spurts and

vocals snarl, and the coolest woman in rock&roll since (The

Cramps) Poison Ivy, Buffi Aguero and her lo-fi primitive

drum beat pounds.

The Subsonics are a totally unique band

offering a dizzying blend of naked rock, glamorous garage,

lofi rockabilly, and tortured pop. Citing influences such as the

Voivoids, Bo Diddley, Wilson Pickett, Ike & Tina, Little Richard

and the Velvet Underground.
