Creative Reuse Centers: More Hip than our Beer

Durham, NC is home to one of the greatest creative reuse centers in the country–it’s true.  Chicago has one and so does San Francisco, but none compare to the Scrap Exchange.

The Scrap Exchange is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote creativity, environmental awareness, and community through reuse.

They collect materials from hundreds of individuals, businesses, industries, and municipal sources and distribute those materials through their retail store in Durham, North Carolina as well as through workshops, parties, and outreach events across the Southeast.

The Scrap Exchange creates a win-win-win situation for everyone involved — their donors are eligible for a tax deduction for the fair market value of the items they donate; community members have access to hard-to-find, affordable materials; and usable materials are kept from entering the waste stream.

PBR is proud to sponsor the “Green Gallery,” The Scrap Exchange’s very own artist gallery.  Check out local, sustainable art every 3rd Friday of the month while enjoying cold, delicious Pabst!
